4 Oil Tanks Replacement in Rathmore

New oil tank installation process
Today we are in Rathmore, Co. Meath.
Tasks:
  • Remove old oil tank
  • Install 4 new tanks in new location

Day 1 - Temporary oil tank relocation

Temporary relocated oil tank
The old tank and its contents are moved to a temporary location to ensure the heating system runs smoothly and works for us.

Site preparation
The tanks are installed in a single row to the side of the garage.
  • Levelling the site for installation
  • Clear the necessary space from tree branches for the installation of the tanks.
  • Pour concrete

Day 2 - Installing the new oil tanks

Levelling the surface

The concrete has set - the site is ready for further work.
We started by carefully monitoring the level of the concrete. As a result, we have a level surface, which of course facilitates the proper installation of the oil tanks.

Oil tanks

As we have already mentioned, there will be 4 plastic single skin Carbery oil tanks: 2 x 980L and 2 x 1550L.
The tanks have different volumes and therefore different sizes. When building bases for them we will take two factors into account:
1. The width of the base
2. Height of the base

The tanks will be connected to each other, which means that this setup will be nothing more than communicating vessels. It is therefore necessary that all the tanks are level at the top. This is convenient both for the supplier and for the tank owner to monitor the oil level.

Tank Bases

New tank base building process
It follows from the previous paragraph that the height of tanks with different volumes will be different.
The base is made of ordinary blocks and lintels. The height of the base is calculated from the distance between the tank inlets and the boiler.
Scientific fact:
Gravity is created by the difference in height between the two vessels through which the flow passes. This height difference creates a pressure difference between the vessels, which favours the movement of fluid from the higher pressure area to the lower pressure area. The greater the head difference, the greater the force of gravity and the greater the flow velocity.

Oil Tanks assembly

Connect the tanks to each other and to the main fuel line of the boiler.

Oil transfer

It's time to transfer the remaining good oil from the old tank to one of the new tanks. The amount of oil will be spread evenly over all 4 tanks, the oil delivery man is expected in 2 hours. By then our work should be done.
Using a filtration system, the good oil is transferred to the new tank, while the bad oil and sediment are pumped into special containers for disposal.

Restarting the boiler

The boiler now receives oil from the new tanks. Start the boiler and check its operation.
It took about 20 minutes to reconnect the oil source.

Tank removal

The old tank has done its job and is ready to "retire".
The tank and the bad oil residue go to us for proper and compliant disposal.

  • Old tank removed
  • 4 new oil tanks installed
