Oil Tank FAQ

Common questions about heating oil tank replacement, removal and relocation in Leinster. If you need a quote, send photos of the tank, base and access area, or ring Brian on 086 806 8776

Why is the oil tank base so important?

The base supports the full weight of the tank and helps prevent movement, distortion and stress. A poor base can shorten the life of the tank and increase the risk of leaks.

Can the existing base be reused?

Only if it is level, solid and properly sized for the new tank. If the base is cracked, sinking or too small, it should be repaired or rebuilt.

How do I get a quote?

Ring Brian on 086 806 8776 or send photos of the tank, base and access area. That is usually the quickest way to get started.

What areas do you cover?

We cover oil tank work across Leinster.

How much does it cost to replace, move or remove a tank?

Each job is different. Cost depends on the tank type, access, base work, pipework, oil handling and disposal. Any guide price is indicative only. Final pricing is confirmed directly for the specific job.

Can you quote from photos?

Often, yes. Clear photos of the tank, base, pipework and access area are usually enough for an initial quote. If the setup is unclear, a site check may still be needed.

Send clear photos of the tank, especially base from 2 meters. It also helps to include the width of the narrowest access point.

Do you supply heating oil?

No. We do not supply heating oil.

We switched to gas. Can you remove the old oil tank?

Yes. The tank can be emptied, disconnected, removed and disposed of properly.

Can you keep the good oil and put it into the new tank?

Yes, we separate clean oil from water and sludge. Good oil transfered to new tank. Bad residues taken away for environment-friendly disposal

Do you remove and dispose of the old tank?

Yes. Old tank removal and disposal are included as part of the work.

How long does it take to fit a new oil tank?

Most straightforward jobs are completed in around 2 to 3 hours. The final time depends on access, base condition, distance to the boiler, and whether old oil needs to be handled during the job.

Can you replace a steel oil tank?

Yes. Old steel tanks can be removed and replaced with a new tank suited to the site.

Can a plastic oil tank be repaired?

Not as a safe long-term fix. Replacement is usually the better option.

How do I know if my oil tank needs replacing?

If the tank is leaking, cracked, bulging, badly faded, worn or no longer sitting properly, replacement is usually the safer option. A damaged or poorly supported tank can fail without much warning.

Do I need a bunded or a single skin tank?

That depends on the location and the site conditions. The right choice is based on the property, access, surroundings and the setup of the job.

Can you fit a new fuel line to the boiler?

Yes, if needed. Existing lines can often be reused, but they can also be replaced or rerouted where the job requires it.

I do not have side access. Can the tank still be replaced?

Usually, yes. In many cases the new tank can be brought through the house, and the old tank can be cut down and removed in sections. The work area is kept as tidy as possible throughout.
